Painting on metal, how to make a success of your project?

The preparation of the metal is the key to ensuring good adhesion of the antirust paint. The first step is to clean the surface to remove all kinds of contaminants: paint, rust, oil, etc. If the surface contains rust or is very shiny, you can sand and then remove the dust with a cloth, as the paint adheres better when in direct contact with metal. Remove old, flaking paint. Clean the surface to be painted with a trisodium phosphate solution (TSP). Rinse well and allow to dry thoroughly.

Painting on steel

Remove rust that is about to fall off by brushing with a steel brush. Paint can be applied directly to the rust. The paint penetrates the rust and stops it from spreading.

If desired, prepare the surface with antirust preparation paints.

Painting on aluminium and non-ferrous metals

For best adhesion, the surface should be sandblasted to increase the contact area and must be coated with a primer designed for a non-ferrous metal surface.
