Reducing the environmental footprint at every stage of the life cycle
The production of paint involves the use of resources and energy as well as generating a lot of waste. The sum of each stage, from resource extraction to product recovery or reuse, defines its environmental footprint.
To reduce its impact, it is important to analyse each stage of a product’s life cycle, taking everything into account: manufacturing, transport, use, from the beginning to the end of its life.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an internationally recognised scientific approach to analysing the environmental footprint of a product or service according to the globally benchmarked ISO 14040-44 series of standards.
The LCA of Boomerang 100% eco-friendly paint has allowed Société Laurentide to demonstrate that its production emits four times less greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the production of traditional paint, all brands considered.
Thus, our company is fully committed to the protection of the environment and the protection of resources.
Environmental Product Declaration
The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) allows manufacturing companies to communicate to the consumer the environmental performance of their products on the seven main environmental indicators, from its creation to its end-of-life management. The EPD is now widely used in North America. It is based on the results of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
Boomerang 100% eco-friendly paint is subject to an Environmental Product Declaration (CSA Certified). Choosing Boomerang paint for your construction projects allows you to earn credits towards LEED v4 (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification in the Materials and Resources category.
“Boomerang products are made from post-consumer paints and are packaged in containers made of recycled materials and recyclable plastics. On average, Boomerang paints contain 43 grams of VOCs per litre, which meets national standards and LEED requirements. VOC content was measured using standard EPA 24 and ASTM D-2369 methods. It is important to note that these products are made from post-consumer paints with various VOC contents that would otherwise have been sent to landfills. In 2016, Laurentide Re/sources collected 8 million kilograms of leftover paint and containers, 82% of which was recycled and therefore diverted from landfills.”
